The present technology embodies the use of a novel organic formulation of a natural isolate identified as Streptomyces rochei for vegetable crops grown in fields and seedling nurseries towards improving germination and stimulation of growth of plants. It can be applied both as seed treatment and soil drench with water. Additionally, its application upregulates defense response upon seedling emergence improving plant health. Pronounced effect of upto 188% increase in shoot weight and upto 44% improvement in germination has been reported in multilocation trials in four places in India in brinjal seedlings when applied at 10 – 15 g/kg of seeds. This will be greatly beneficial to nursery growers and farmers alike. Significant increase in yield has been reported in atleast two locations in brinjal as well as other vegetable crops like chilli and capsicum. This technology will find place in agro input industries, biotechnology companies, organic farmers and farming agencies.

RAW MATERIALS
All the raw materials (Tamarind seed, talcum powder) used for the development of this formulation are available locally. The strain of Streptomyces can be procured from BARC through technology transfer.
