Mandate

Scientific Information Resource Division provides and manages all the knowledge resources that are needed by its scientists and engineers to advance the Nuclear Science & Technology in the country



Highlights

It is a Gateway established by SIRD, for providing easy access to all online e-resources in BARC through the campus wide network. Lakshya, a Hindi word meaning Target, aims to provide online digital resources to BARC Scientists and Engineers for their Research & Development activities. Currently more than 3500 E-journals (in various areas of Nuclear Science and Technology) are available, majority of them in full text format. An alphabetic list of journals along with search options is available. Lakshya also hosts 6000+ E-books, databases like Scopus, INIS etc. and Standards like ISO, ASME/BPVC, DIN, British Standards etc and other E-Resources are available. Some of the useful open access journals have also been included in the journal’s list.

Saraswati, A knowledge portal for accessing, searching, downloading and printing of digital collection well integrated with BARC campus wide Intranet. A large number of scientific and technical resources especially Web-OPAC, in-house published publication, Library Holding, Institutional repository for Journal Articles, PhD thesis, BARC newsletter, BARC reports, catalogues, Newspaper clippings, standards such as IEC, handbooks, encyclopaedia, Handbooks codes etc were made available from web browser interface. These resources are centrally hosted and maintained by SIRD with an array of servers.

Central Library has an excellent collection of Books, Journals, Bound volumes, Reports, Patents, Standards, and Thesis etc. It is automation with latest web technologies for majority its activities using integrated Library Management software. A well established OPAC provides access to the collection.



(1970-05-01/2030-12-31) International Nuclear Information System (INIS)


Scientific Information Resource Division of BARC is the sole nodal agency for all activities related to INIS in India from its inception in 1970. The preparation of the INIS input, bibliographic details of the literature on peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology published in India, is done in the Division.

NucNet provides nuclear-related news about the operation & construction of nuclear power stations, policies affecting the nuclear industry, nuclear safety & security, emerging nuclear technologies and the safe use of ionising radiation, etc.
