DAE-CSIR
Program on Safe Drinking Water

Water security is a fundamental requirement for the sustainable development and poverty alleviation. In the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life’, Government of India has launched ‘Bharat Nirman’ yojana, which includes provision of safe drinking water. With the limited natural resources, it is difficult to ensure the availability of safe drinking water to all. Decent quantities of available water resources are also not fit for drinking because contamination due to microbial organisms, iron, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic and salinity. DAE and CSIR laboratories have developed several technologies to remedy the problems.

DAE-CSIR program envisages deployment of the technologies in a reliable and sustainable manner to achieve these objectives. The implementation involves synergistic participation of DAE-CSIR laboratories, executing agencies and users each with financial contribution and commitment to ensure self-sustenance preferably with a multiplier effect.
