DAE RESEARCH AWARD FOR  YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Department  of Atomic Energy (DAE) on the recommendations of  the Board  of  Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) has  instituted  a Scheme to Grant financial assistance to Young Scientists in their  initial  years   of  settling down in a career  of  Research  and Development.   The assistance in the form of a Research Award  is  given  to exceptionally bright young scientists below the age  of  35 years.

The Award carries a maximum research grant of Rs. 17.00 lakhs in a  block  of  three  years and can be utilised  for  expenditure  on  JRF Salary,   equipment,   consumables,  travel  and  other  contingencies   in  connection with his/her research activities.

Scientists/Engineers    working   in    universities,   academic/  research  institutions of higher  learning and  having a  regular position are ONLY eligible to apply for  this  Award. 

Those   working  in  the  laboratories  and  institutions   fully  supported by government departments like DAE, DST, CSIR, ICMR and  ICAR  need  not apply for this award.  Scientists  and  engineers  working  in  R&D  organisations  of  Private  Industry  or  fully  supported  by Private Industry also need not apply.  Also,  those  who have already received earlier or are currently in receipt  of  any  research grant from any funding agency are not eligible  for  the Award.

        2.   Chemistry
        3.   Life and Medical Sciences
        4.   Engineering Sciences
        5.   Materials Science
        6.   Electronics and Instrumentation
        7.   Food and Agricultural Sciences
        8.   Radiation and Environmental Sciences and
        9.   Radio-isotope applications.

15  copies of the Application as per the proforma given  for  the  DAE  Research  Award for Young Scientists  duly  recommended  and  forwarded  by the Head of the institution/university may be  sent  to :

There is no last date for receiving the applications. The applications will be processed as and when they are received through out the year.

8. Research experience - Details of research work in not more than 500 words may be given, highlighting the applicant's own contributions. Indicate, the institution where the work was carried out. If whole or part of the work is done abroad, indicate the portion that was done abroad with details of the team members, and the programme/scheme under which this was carried out.

9. Details of the R&D project proposed.

Kindly furnish the information under the following headings:

Project Title, Executive summary (250 words), Aims and Objectives of the project (200 words), the importance of the project (200 words), expected outcome of the project (100 words), detailed plan of action to achieve the objectives (250 words), budget requirements etc.

10. List of publications. Information may be provided under these heads (a) published papers (b) papers accepted for publication and (c) papers accepted for presentation at forthcoming conferences. Manuscripts under preparation should not be included. Complete details of the publication like, title of the paper, authors names, journal reference (title, year, volume, page no.) should be given. Mark five most significant publications with asterisk and send one set of reprints/xerox copies.

11. Name two persons who are conversant with the applicant’s work and give their designation and full address, so that a reference can be made to them, if necessary

12. Declaration: "I hereby certify that I have not received any research grant from any funding agency as on date of application for this award".
