Intelligent Braille System


Intelligent Braille Interpreter is a unique braille key board operatable system with an instant feedback by spoken text in English. Visually handicapped, with the help of this system interact independently with any form of text documents. Like a normal sighted person they can access, create, listen, sto re, correct, append, print or even braille existing or entirely new text using this system. The system serves as virtual eyes to the visually handicapped for text handling. One of the important features of the system is that it can even read-out printed or typed pages to visually handicapped. No restriction on the use of English vocabulary including numerals, special symbols and mathematical signs, enhances the scope of utlisation of the system in different fields. Additional facilities have been provided for partially sighted and deaf and dumb to use the system. No prior knowledge of computer is required on the part of visually handicapped user. Only knowing braille is sufficient to use this system. Hence a school going visually handicapped child to the highly educated visually handicapped professional can use this system very efficiently. Five such systems are with users at Delhi, Mysore and Bombay. The development of this system has far reaching social implications on the status of visually handicapped community. The system opens better prospects for integrated education, rehabilitation and higher status employment opportunities for them.The system being unique, versatile and simple to operate; export potential exists. &n bsp; Development of similar system for Devnagari Scripts and Hindi language is n progress.
