Water
security is a fundamental requirement for the sustainable development
and poverty alleviation. In the International Decade for Action ‘Water
for Life’, Government of India has launched ‘Bharat Nirman’ yojana,
which includes provision of safe drinking water. With the limited
natural resources, it is difficult to ensure the availability of safe
drinking water to all. Decent quantities of available water resources
are also not fit for drinking because contamination due to microbial
organisms, iron, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic and salinity. DAE and CSIR
laboratories have developed several technologies to remedy the problems. DAE-CSIR program envisages deployment
of the technologies in a reliable and sustainable manner to achieve
these objectives. The implementation involves synergistic participation
of DAE-CSIR laboratories, executing agencies and users each with
financial contribution and commitment to ensure self-sustenance
preferably with a multiplier effect. Four broad categories in terms of capacities namely domestic (upto 100LPD), community (up to 50,000LPD), small conglomerates (100,000 – 500,000 LPD) and large capacity (more than 1MLD) have been identified for installation at appropriate locations. The details of technology available are provided in the enclosed pages. |
