About NUCAR-2019

The 14th Biennial Symposium on “Nuclear and Radiochemistry (NUCAR-2019) is beingsponsored by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)and organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)in association with Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS) at the DAE Convention Centre, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai – 400094 during January15-19, 2019. NUCAR Symposium is one of the major meetings of BRNSin the field of “Nuclear & Radiochemistry and it is organized once two years. It covers a wide range of topics ( as per the scope) like nuclear and radiochemistry, chemistry of actinides & fission products, nuclear & radioanalytical techniques, applications of radioisotopes in industries, healthcare and agriculture, radiation technology, spectroscopy of actinides, environmental radioactivity, nuclear instrumentation& nuclear forensics. Technical program covers talks and presentations on both front end and back end of nuclear fuel cycle of atomic energy program. The NUCAR symposium is one of the oldest and prestigious symposia of DAE that is fully funded by BRNS. The conference will be extremely useful in the sense that it will be attended byscientists from National Laboratories, Universities and Research Institutes from India and abroad and will provide a platform for effective interaction among the scientists engaged in research in the areas of nuclear and radiochemistry and applications of radioisotopes. In past, NUCAR symposium has been held throughout the length and breadth of the country every alternate year to popularize the subject of Nuclear and Radiochemistry among research institutes and highlight the peaceful use of Nuclear Energy. The previous venues and years of NUCAR Symposium are mentioned below.

The following topics would be covered in the symposium:

  • Nuclear Chemistry and Nuclear Probes
  • Chemistry of Reactor Materials
  • Actinide Spectroscopy
  • Chemistry of Fission and Activation Products
  • Nuclear and Radioanalytical Techniques
  • Applications of Radioisotopes & Radiation Technology
  • Environmental Radioactivity
  • Nuclear Forensics
  • Nuclear Instrumentation

This symposium will bring together a panel of highly-accomplished experts and the presentations will encompass basic studies and applications as well as address topics of novel methods. During the five-day conference, discussions will focus on the recent advances, difficulties, and breakthroughs in the field of nuclear & radiochemistry and applications of radioisotopes. The conference will feature a keynote talk, invited talks, invited young scientists presentations along with oral and poster presenttaions in various technical sessions. Best oral & poster presentations will be selected for the award by IANCAS. Invited talks and contributory abstracts will be published as a Book of Abstracts to be distributed to the delegates during the symposium.A half day of the symposium will be devoted to the “Extension of Periodic Table” to commemorate 150 years of Periodic Table. Authors of some selected abstracts (as per the reviewers’ comments/recommendations) will be intimated for submission of full paper in International Journal: J. Radionalaytical & Nuclear Chemistry (JRNC) as a special issue of NUCAR-2019. The publication process will be completed within six months from January 15, 2019.

About the Mumbai and the Venue

Mumbai is on the west coast of India. It is thefinancial capital of India and houses Indian film industry. Mumbai city is well connected to other parts of India and rest of the world. People coming to Mumbai by train can alight at Mumbai CST, Dadar, Kurla, Mumbai Central, Bandra or Panvel Terminus. Those travelling by flight will alight either at domestic airport at Santacruz or at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja International Airport (Terminal 2, T2). The venue of the Symposium is at the DAE Convention Centre, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai-400094. Anushaktinagar is located in the north-east part of Mumbai. This is a residential colony for the staff members of DAE organizations including BARC and is surrounded by beautiful hills and gardens. Railway stations are within 10-20 km from the Venue. Anushaktinagar is less than 25 kms from the Domestic and international ( Terminal 2) airports. Prepaid and App based taxies ( Ola, Uber, Meru, Cool Cab, pre-paid taxi) are available at most of the railway stations and the airports. Those travelling by local trains should alight at Mankhurd Station (East) on the harbour line, which is ~2 kms from the venue(Anushaktinagar). Many buses run by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) come to the Anushaktinagar Bus Depot, near to & next to Chembur/Deonar.Mumbaihas a hot climate during summer and pleasant during winter. November to February is pleasant with temperature range between18°C to 25°C.

Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS)

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) through its nodal funding agency – Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) supports extramural research and development activities in nuclear and allied sciences, engineering and technology. The major activities of BRNS are: to identify and tofundR & D programs and projects, to award fellowships to pursue doctoral programs, and research grants to young scientists, to organize symposia on topic of relevance and interest to DAE as well as in frontier areas of science and technology, to extend financial support to symposia and conferences organized by professional bodies and other agencies, to establish of chairs in universities and other institutions of higher learning, to create infrastructure facilities for advanced research, to identify, /create and support centers of excellence.
