About Us…

RCA INDIA is the Office of the RCA National Representative from India
- located ideally in the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Campus.
RCA Liaison Officer is responsible for the routine RCA activities in the country under Director, Knowledge Management Group, BARC.

Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) is India’s prestigious and most coveted institution of excellence in the fields of Science and Technology and is coming under the Department of Atomic Energy. Basically a research center established for the exploration and proliferation of the peaceful uses of Atomic Energy for the benefits of mankind, today, owing to its well knitted infrastructure facilities, sophisticated modern equipments, laboratories, multidisciplinary specialties and expert manpower, BARC has grown to become the hub of frontline research activities spanning the whole gamut of modern science and technology – be it physical science, chemical science, biological sciences, material science, diverse engineering sciences, robotics and also information technology pathways. The vast contribution to such a different and diversified fields of science and technology from BARC is well accepted and acknowledged globally so that BARC is regarded as one of the referral nodal center by various national and international agencies on matters pertaining to Science and Technology.

Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India pursues comprehensive programmes of harnessing nuclear energy and its applications for the societal benefits. These programmes are multi-disciplinary in nature, geared towards the use of atomic energy for the peaceful purposes including development of nuclear power technology, applications of the radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, Industry, environment and basic research.

DAE is the Nodal Ministry responsible for RCA in India

The programmes of the Department are geared towards:

  • Enhancing the share of nuclear power through deployment of indigenous and other proven technologies, and also develop fast breeder reactors and thorium reactors with associated fuel cycle facilities; Building and operation of research reactors for production of radioisotopes, building other sources of radiation such as accelerators and lasers, and developing and deploying radiation technology applications in the field of medicine, agriculture and industry;
  • Developing of advanced technologies such as accelerators, lasers, supercomputers, strategic materials andinstrumentation.
  • Carrying out and extending support to basic research in nuclear energy and related frontier areas of science.
  • Interaction with universities and academic institutions; Support to research and development projects having a bearing on DAE's programmes and International cooperation in related advanced areas of research, and Contribution to national security and also promoting education linked research pursuits.
