| Isotope and radiation technology applications for industrial and social benefit |
The industrial and societal applications of Isotopes and Radiation Technology include water resources development, management and environmental control; development of new technologies using sealed sources and radiotracers for NDT, process optimization and troubleshooting of industrial systems; Hot Cell operations for fabricating kilocurie level Co-60 sources for use in various types of irradiators, hospitals and other applications; and use of gamma and electron beam radiations for developing new products with improved/specific properties |
Rejuvenation of drying springs in Gaucher area, Uttarakhand
With this technique, 17 springs have been recharged with increased flow rates from 3 to 9 times. About 5,000 villagers gets 24 hours water throughout the year
Similar investigations are underway at 2 locations in Mizoram, 4 in Sikkim, 2 in Himachal Pradesh and 4 in Uttarakhand
A isotope hydrology laboratory at has been setup at Dehradun with assistance of BARC and BRNS to train local people to multiply this technology in the country

Identification of groundwater sanctuaries at Anjangaon village, Amaravati District, Maharashtra
Isotope hydrological investigation demarcated an area about 10 km south of Chinchona hill range as groundwater sanctuary. The borehole (60m deep) drilled at the identified area is yielding ~30,000 L/h and is a perennial source of good quality water which is being supplied to 5-6 villages for drinking and irrigation. Similar studies are being carried out at Buldhana, Sudhaghad, Guhaghar and Tara village, Raighad, Maharashtra.
