ANUSHAKTI : Atomic Energy In India
  • Conclusion

In pursuit of the peaceful uses of Atomic Energy, power generation based on nuclear energy assumes first and foremost place and India has achieved many milestones in this area. A well planned programme for the progressive expansion for the tapping of atomic energy for electricity keeping in view of the country’s future requirements for increased power generation capacity and available resources has been under implementation. A strong R&D base has been established and functions as a back bone for the smooth transition of the research and development activities to the deployment phase and thereby realising the Department of Atomic Energy’s mandate. Many technologies of strategic importance have been mastered to meet developmental needs. Indigenous technology development in the areas of fuel reprocessing, enrichment, production of special materials, computers, lasers, accelerators represents a whole spectrum of activities necessary for realising full potential of our energy resources to meet future energy needs. Radiation Technology and Isotope Applications represents another prominent area of the peaceful uses of Atomic Energy in health care, agriculture, industries, hydrology and food preservation where self- reliance has been accomplished.
